Uche Sparks Dominant Crystal Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Even though embarking on their first-ever continental adventure, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without key players like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles departed Dublin with a commanding result that all but guarantees them a spot in the Conference League playoffs.
A further three points in their next fixture against Finnish KuPS should be sufficient to secure straight entry to the knockout stages, particularly after a prior setback against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Grasp the Moment
This match provided a chance for some of Palace's fringe talent to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second beginning after joining on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a clinical goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a another, finding the net for the second game in succession.
The Shelbourne side that had concluded their league season were outmatched even for a mostly second-string Palace outfit. The visitors were further depleted by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with leg problems.
Control Asserted from the Outset
Despite heavy rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly established dominance. A flowing move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, let Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward tap-in.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close minutes later, driving a powerful effort over the bar. Nketiah subsequently claimed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the referee dismissed the appeals.

The contest was as good as over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past a series of comically weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
After the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest several players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring with his very first touch, but saw his shot blocked.
The youngster was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche also missed a glaring chance, indicating there is still room for development in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, capping an otherwise positive evening for the traveling side.
