The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
