Last Ship of 42-Vessel Palestinian-Supporting Naval Mission Intercepted by Israeli Military

The remaining vessel of the large humanitarian flotilla trying to break Israel's decade-plus maritime restriction on the Gaza Strip has been intercepted by Israel's military units.

Protest Stoppage and Expulsion Processes

Based on government announcements, processes are presently underway to expel the about nearly five hundred participants currently in custody. Among those held are four Italian parliamentarians who are expected to go back to Italy on a scheduled flight.

Final Ship Details

Footage from late Thursday showed the last boat being manned by six activists, including several Turkish individuals, a German national, and an Omani activist. The Australian skipper of the vessel declared via video call: "We have a contingent of highly resilient Turkey's activists with us... we're intending to continue in our course."

According to a mission spokesperson, the ship had become part of the mission behind schedule after bad weather forced it to return to harbor in the Catalan port.

Previous Precedent

The interception signifies the most proximate any unapproved relief effort has gotten to the Gaza shoreline since Israel imposed its naval embargo in 2009. The boat was apprehended when it was estimated to be forty-two point five nautical miles from the Gaza's waters.

Previous attempts by activists to breach the naval embargo have been stopped by armed intervention. In twenty ten, ten Turkey's participants were killed when Israel's commandos raided the lead ship as it spearheaded an humanitarian flotilla toward the Gaza Strip.

Additional Ship Particulars

An additional vessel identified as the second vessel seemed to have entered into Palestinian maritime zone, waiting nine miles off the beach before being stopped. However, coordinators stated they had been unable to reach with the vessel's team some time earlier.

"It could be a monitoring malfunction or a equipment issue with the monitoring," commented a representative. "We will only have verification after speaking with the team, which is unfeasible right now as they are being held by Israeli authorities."

Present Status

All held crew members from the fleet are being taken to Israel where they will face removal processes. Several participants on this most recent mission, featuring well-known participant the environmental campaigner, have been previously held by Israel's forces while trying to violate the restriction.

Traditionally, protesters apprehended by Israel have generally not been faced legal charges and their involvement has been handled as an border control concern rather than a legal offense.
